The Portuguese National GRID Initiative (INGRID) was launched in 2006. It aims to expand the national grid infrastructure and to enlarge the connectivity between grid nodes in Portugal and to international grid infrastructures. The Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) is responsible for the execution of the project and UMIC oversees the initiative. The grid consists of 398 processors (situation in May 2007) in 5 sites (Braga, Porto, Aveiro, Coimbra and Lisbon). It is planned to expand the grid to 1500 procesors in 2007 and to 5000 in 2009. Funding from FCT in 2006 was ~ €1.7 million.
