The national poly-project CRO-GRID was launched in 2004. The first grid infrastructure, connecting five nodes in Zagreb, Osijek, Rijeka and Split was built in 2005.
The CRO-GRID project led in 2007 to the Croatian National Grid Infrastructure (CRO NGI). CRO NGI consisted end 2007 of 19 nodes in 5 institutes (SRCE, IRB, GRADRI (Rijeka), FESB (Split) and ETFOS (Osijek)).
CRO NGI is coordinated by SRCE and managed by a Board consisting of members appointed by the Minister of Science, Education and Sports, the Chairman of the Council of Partners, the Chairman of the Council of Users and the Head of the Coordinators.
CRO NGI is financed as a separate unit in the State Budget of the Republic of Croatia.
The Croatian National Grid Initiative CNGI is a voluntary community of institutions and economic entities gathered around CRO NGI.
