It is widely recognized that information goods have very different properties from physical goods. In particular, information goods such as computer software, text, images, and databases have costs of production that vastly exceed their costs of reproduction. This extreme form of economies of scale has important implications for the provision of information goods in a market economy. This is the research topic of the PRIE research program.
