Through strategic partnerships with global companies such as Life Technologies, a growing number of European organisations in the academic, research and engineering communities including febit gmbh, Fraunhofer Institute, Sanger Institute, and the Max Planck Institute, are now using Penguin solutions to meet their high performance computing needs. In addition, Penguin is working with regional resellers and service providers like Klassic Computers in the United Kingdom and IPS in Germany, among others, to provide expert local service and support for its customers throughout Europe.
Penguin Computing, established in 1998 and based near Silicon Valley in California, is a global specialist in the technical computing market, delivering high performance computing solutions and services with a focus on ease of use, cutting-edge technology and superior customer value. Since its inception, the company has had unique expertise in Linux-based HPC clusters. Penguin's CTO Donald Becker is well known as the inventor of the Beowulf parallel computing cluster architecture and a primary contributor to the Linux kernel. Today, Penguin has over 2500 customers representing some of the most respected national research institutions, universities, defense contractors and enterprises in the world.
Penguin offers a wide range of scalable Linux solutions based on Intel Xeon and AMD Opteron technology, along with state-of-the-art peripheral and storage options. In addition, Penguin now offers "Penguin on Demand" - or POD - a complete HPC as a Service solution in the Cloud. POD is targeted at researchers, scientists and engineers who require surge capacity for time-critical analyses or organisations that need HPC capabilities without the expense and effort required to acquire HPC clusters.
"Penguin Computing has leveraged its expertise in Linux clusters to build a range of extremely powerful, turnkey HPC solutions that also offer a great value to customers", stated Donald Becker. "The company has recently experienced tremendous growth and momentum, with over 35 percent growth in 2009 and 300 percent in Q1 2010 alone, and we are now ready to aggressively bring our cost-effective HPC solutions to the European market."
"HPC is one of the essential areas for Cloud computing, especially for large enterprises and scientific research. Penguin has a large potential with its offering in this attractive market", stated Dr. Carlo Velten, senior advisor at Experton Group, a fully integrated research, advisory and consulting company.
Penguin Computing will formally introduce itself to the European community at the International Supercomputing Conference (ISC), May 31-June 3, in Hamburg, Germany. |
