As each year, Primeur Live! will bring you the latest news from the supercomputing event. Blogging? Twitter? We already brought you Live news from supercomputing events before these came along and plan to bring you Live! news from HPC events when these have long been forgotten. | China’s new Nebulae supercomputer is no. 2, right on the tail of ORNL's Jaguar in newest TOP500 list of fastest supercomputers |

China's ambition to enter the supercomputing arena has become obvious with a system called Nebulae, built from a Dawning TC3600 Blade system with Intel X5650 processors and NVidia Tesla C2050 GPUs. Nebulae is currently the fastest system worldwide in theoretical peak performance at 2.98 PFlop/s. With a Linpack performance of 1.271 PFlop/s it holds the no. 2 spot on the 35th edition of the closely watched TOP500 list of supercomputers.

| Petaflop thunder and multicore lightning at ISC'10 opening |

Heavy rains with thunder and lightning were adding to the Hamburg harbour mystique on Sunday evening but there was more thunder and lightning at the ISC'10 opening on Monday morning, May 31st, with news about three Petascale systems in the 35th TOP500 edition and the rising star of multicore architectures during the press conference.

|
AMD continues to hold the reigning spot on the TOP500 Supercomputer list announced at the International Supercomputing Conference in Hamburg, Germany. Jaguar, the world's highest performing system, is a massive, 1.75 petaflop Cray XT5 supercomputer based on the Six-Core AMD Opteron processor and features almost a quarter of a million cores.

| Tera 100, Europe's most powerful supercomputer, is powered up for the first time |
|
The Military Applications Department of the French Atomic Energy Authority (the CEA) and Bull have powered up for the first time the CEA's new Tera 100 supercomputer. The result of a collaborative programme between Bull and the CEA which began in 2008, Tera 100 is the first petaflops-scale supercomputer ever designed and developed in Europe. Its theoretical maximum power of 1.25 Petaflops means it ranks among the three most powerful supercomputers in the world. Tera 100 is destined for the French nuclear weapons simulation programme, aimed at guaranteeing the reliability of nuclear deterrent weapons.

A team of researchers from Chuo University, Kyoto University, Tokyo Institute of Technology and Japan's Institute of Physical and Chemical Research - known as Riken - employed the T2K Open Supercomputer, which was delivered by Fujitsu to Kyoto University's Academic Center for Computing and Media Studies, to successfully compute with high precision, as a world first, an optimization problem to reveal the molecular behaviour of ethane (CH3 only), ammonia (NH3) and oxygen (O2).
