Dating back from 2003, the e-Infrastructure Reflection

Group was founded to define and recommend best practices for the pan-European electronic infrastructure efforts. It consists of official government delegates from all EU member states. The e-IRG produces white papers, roadmaps and recommendations, and analyses the future foundations of the European Knowledge Society. The e-IRG Executive Board includes its chairman Leif Laaksonen and representatives of the EU Presidency troika; currently these are Dany Vandromme (RENATER), Fiorenzo Scaroni (SWITCH) and Jan Gruntorad (CESNET).

In preparation for an e-IRG Executive Board meeting, Leif Laaksonen and Matti Heikkurinen of the e-IRG secretariat visited the TERENA offices on 4 December 2008 to discuss possibilities for increased collaboration with the European research networking community with TERENA President Dorte Olesen and staff members of the TERENA Secretariat.

Various aspects of e-IRG and TERENA activities were discussed. It was agreed to investigate the possibilities for discussing the e-IRG roadmap at the TERENA Networking Conference in Malaga in June 2009, as well as opportunities to give increased attention to networking issues at the next semi-annual e-IRG workshop, which will be organised by the Czech Presidency of the European Union on 14-15 May 2009 in Prague.
