The data centre is designed using IBM Research energy-efficient green strategies and technology innovations that optimize space, power cooling and resiliency while reducing costs and supporting business growth. Clients using this centre will have access to massive internet-scale computing capabilities, while gaining the cost and environmental protection advantages of IBM's industry leading energy efficiency data centre design and research.

With this data centre opening, IBM is increasing its ability to address surging demand from businesses and governments from around the world seeking to keep their operations safe from disruption. IBM is a global expert in providing services that help avoid disruption and enable business continuity.

As part of its data centre strategy new and upgraded products and services are being introduced across the IBM portfolio. These elements focus on tools to measure and manage energy consumption, manage security pain points and provide significant cost savings for data centre optimization.

IBM's Software Value chain is a fulfillment solution designed to make global software deployment, tracking and delivery more efficient. It includes a Web-based application ShopzSeries that lets clients order software based on their individual needs, specify the mode and timing of the delivery, and check the status of their orders in real time 24x7. The solution's increased flexibility enables IBM to more quickly and easily roll out new versions of IBM software and respond to changing global business conditions.

With volumes of over 200,000 customer packages annually, the new supply chain hub in Dublin supports in electronic and print formats: software media manufacturing for tape, DVD, and CD; warehousing and shipping of books, manuals, papers, etc; and managing the packaging and shipping of customer orders.

The Dublin hub complements and greatly strengthens IBM's existing Integrated Supply Chain software operations in Boulder, USA.
