With this data centre opening, IBM is increasing its ability to address surging demand from businesses and governments from around the world seeking to keep their operations safe from disruption. IBM is a global expert in providing services that help avoid disruption and enable business continuity.
The Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment Mary Coughlan T.D. stated: "This investment is excellent news for Ireland and is the 3rd significant investment so far this year from IBM for Ireland. IDA Ireland and IBM have a pro-active long-standing relationship in advancing the company in Ireland and I congratulate them both on this innovative 'green' investment. Building and investing in this Data Center is further proof of this commitment to providing world-class services both to clients here in the local Irish market and internationally, and combined with the location of IBM's global software delivery hub in Dublin, is an endorsement of Ireland's reputation for excellence and innovation."
As part of its data centre strategy new and upgraded products and services are being introduced across the IBM portfolio. These elements focus on tools to measure and manage energy consumption, manage security pain points and provide significant cost savings for data centre optimization.
"We are hearing from our local clients that they have an increasing need to manage costs, and improve their operational efficiency while not compromising the security and integrity of their systems", stated Anne Fitzsimons, Country Manager, Integrated Technology Services, IBM Ireland. "This new data centre expands our capability to deliver on these requirements. For example, reducing costs through providing Infrastructure Managed Services or improving communications through the convergence of voice and data."
IBM owns and operates more than eight million square feet of data centre space - more than any other company in the world.
IBM's Software Value chain is a fulfillment solution designed to make global software deployment, tracking and delivery more efficient. It includes a Web-based application ShopzSeries that lets clients order software based on their individual needs, specify the mode and timing of the delivery, and check the status of their orders in real time 24x7. The solution's increased flexibility enables IBM to more quickly and easily roll out new versions of IBM software and respond to changing global business conditions.
"Today's announcement illustrates how IBM operates as a globally integrated enterprise. The expertise in Supply Chain Research, IT Services, and Integrated Supply Chain skills here at the Dublin Technology Campus is enabling us to meet the needs not just of our domestic business, but also of our global business", stated Dan Carrell, Dublin Technology Campus Executive and Director, Global Manufacturing and Integration Services.
With volumes of over 200,000 customer packages annually, the new supply chain hub in Dublin supports in electronic and print formats: software media manufacturing for tape, DVD, and CD; warehousing and shipping of books, manuals, papers, etc; and managing the packaging and shipping of customer orders.
The Dublin hub complements and greatly strengthens IBM's existing Integrated Supply Chain software operations in Boulder, USA.
