The new product is targeted to drive high productivity computing farther into the mainstream in a broad array of high-growth IT markets. According to IDC, high growth is projected in the departmental segment of the technical computing server market, with a revenue CAGR of 11.2% to reach $5.8 billion by 2012.

The Cray CX1 product incorporates up to 8 nodes and 16 Intel Xeon processors, either dual or quad core; delivers up to 64 gigabytes of memory per node; and provides up to 4 terabytes of internal storage. Multiple CX1 systems can be connected together via the internal InfiniBand network to form larger compute solutions, and can be configured with a mix of compute, storage and visualization blades to meet customers' individual requirements. |
