The Q-layer solution enables data centre managers to provide their customers with a simple, self-service portal for data centre provisioning. Data centre managers can also integrate additional virtual appliances into the Q-layer Virtual Private Data Center, to enable simple end-user provisioning of any service provided in the data centre.
Intergenia, a hosting provider in Germany with over 20,000 servers under management, is one of Q-layer's first customers and has selected a Voltaire unified fabric for its Q-layer environment.
"We have standardized our InfiniBand infrastructure on Voltaire because of its ease-of-management, high-performance and cost effectiveness", stated Jochen Berger, CTO of Intergenia. "We use InfiniBand both for storage I/O and network I/O which greatly simplifies our network design."
"Many data centres are implementing server virtualization products, but even with server virtualization in place, service providers are still faced with the expense and complexity associated with the provisioning, configuration, integration, and maintenance of hardware appliances, storage and networking functions", stated Niko Nelissen, Vice President, Business Development at Q-layer. "By integrating Voltaire's Grid Backbone hardware and software, we can further increase the efficiency and performance of our software solution, running on top of a unified fabric infrastructure creating competitive differentiation for our customers."
"Voltaire is excited to have been selected by Q-layer", stated Asaf Somekh, Vice President, Strategic Alliances at Voltaire. "The two companies share a similar vision of creating high-performance, efficient solutions for virtualized server and storage environments. We look forward to enabling service providers to take advantage of these technologies."
