Voltaire switches to support new Engenio 7900 HPC storage system from LSI
Dresden 17 June 2008 Voltaire will provide support for the next-generation Engenio 7900 HPC storage system introduced by LSI Corporation. The Engenio 7900 HPC enables customers to use Voltaire's InfiniBand-based switches and software to directly attach to storage for a high-performance, low cost storage solution.

"The outstanding throughput of the Engenio 7900 HPC system makes it ideally suited for computing environments that store and utilize vast amounts of data for bandwidth-intensive applications and complex application processing", stated Julie Ryan, director of alliances, Engenio Storage Group, LSI. "By offering support for Voltaire's InfiniBand-based switches and software with the Engenio 7900 HPC, we're able to provide customers with a flexible, high-performance storage solution with optimized price/performance."

Based on the LSI seventh-generation XBB2 architecture, the Engenio 7900 HPC storage system combines leading performance for compute-intensive applications and high bandwidth workloads, with features designed to help ensure continuous high-speed data accessibility and protection across a wide-range of high-performance computing workloads.

Voltaire Grid Director switches provide high-performance 20 Gbps InfiniBand connectivity and microsecond latencies to enable high-performance applications to run on distributed server, network and storage resources. The Voltaire switches use the industry standard, open source, OpenFabrics Enterprise Edition (OFED) InfiniBand software stack to access the Engenio 7900 HPC storage system.

Several companies in environments such as government labs, defense, energy, media and entertainment and biosciences are evaluating the features and benefits delivered through the combination of LSI and Voltaire offerings.

"To remain competitive in business, high-performance data centres need to look beyond server clustering and evaluate the performance of their storage access", stated Asaf Somekh, vice president of strategic alliances, Voltaire. "Using InfiniBand to directly attach to storage can improve storage performance by orders of magnitude at a very reasonable price point."
