The Center's preliminary results demonstrate that the use of SG Client software can significantly decrease the time required to download the data files. Since the Center does not own or manage the computing and networking

environment of the organizations and researchers it collaborates with, it cannot install Blue Coat ProxySG appliances at their locations. Instead, the Center can have its collaborating researchers install Blue Coat SG Client software on their computers and thereby accelerate file downloads across its virtual Wide Area Network (WAN).

Blue Coat's SG Client is the first integrated WAN optimization client, and is designed to enable enterprises and organisations to extend security, policy control and application acceleration to a user's computer, regardless of its location. Telecommuters, mobile employees, remote third party contractors and others who need access to internal or hosted resources that are potentially thousands of miles away can achieve a LAN-like end-user experience using SG Client software. Often users experience performance increases of up to 35 times. The software's built-in Real Time Performance Indicator graphically displays acceleration results.
