The BELNET Grid Initiative (BEgrid) started in February 2003. Since then equipment of 8 institutes (CETIC, Flanders Marine Institute, FPMS, KULeuven, UA, University of Ghent, ULB and VUB) has been connected to BEgrid. Today it amounts to ~1000 processors and 4 TB storage. BEgrid is coordinated by BELNET. In April 2004 the Flemish Government granted, spread over 4 years, k€717 to the 5 Flemish institutes participating in BEgrid for a pilot grid infrastructure to be incorporated in BEgrid. BEgrid is connected to the EGEE grid.
